Manchester United will have to pay in excess of Francisco Trincao's £50 million release clause to sign him this summer, per a new report.

Sporting are said to be determined to recoup £35m ($45m) for the ex-Wolves star, but that would mean United paying a £70m ($90m) fee, as Ruben Amorim seeks to rejig his attack.

Trincao has a contract until 2026 so United could theoretically play a waiting game, if the Portugal international were willing to run his deal down. He has emerged as a star during his time in Portugal, and is enjoying a remarkable run of form; he has scored eight goals and laid on 12 assists in 26 league games this season. Sporting do not want to sell, as they are also aware they may lose striker Viktor Gyokeres.
Trincao, who has won 10 caps for Portugal, made 28 Premier League appearances while at Wolves. He scored two goals.
United play Nottingham Forest on Tuesday before a huge Manchester derby against City.
